How a Build Moves Through the Shop
Every car follows the same disciplined arc, whether it's a Stage 1 flash or a fully built, standalone-managed motor. The size of the build changes; the process doesn't. Most of the horror stories I hear — blown budgets, cars stuck apart for months, a "finished" build that never ran right — trace back to a shop skipping one of these steps to save time or land the sale. I don't. Here are the seven steps every car goes through, and what actually happens at each one.
The Consult
You tell me the platform, the real goal, the fuel and how you actually drive it. I listen more than I pitch, and I'll tell you honestly what your car needs — even when that's less than you walked in expecting. This is also where I flag anything that changes the picture: your smog situation, a weak factory part, a target your fuel can't support yet.
The Plan & Quote
You get a real parts list and a real number on the table before anything comes apart. No "we'll see once we're in there" open-ended checks — a clear scope, a clear price, and the trade-offs explained in plain language. If there's a smarter way to reach your goal for less, this is where I tell you, not after you've paid for the expensive one.
Parts & Ordering
I source the right parts for your target and your fuel, not whatever's fastest to get, and I'm straight about lead times. On bigger builds we don't tear the car down until the parts that matter are in hand — so your car isn't sitting apart and undriveable for weeks waiting on a backordered turbo or a set of forged pistons.
Machine & Fabrication
The slow, careful part — machine work, welding, mounting and fitment done by hands I trust, with the critical dimensions measured and checked before anything goes together. This is the stage that separates a build that lasts from one that comes back on a flatbed, and it's the one place corners never get cut to save a day.
Assembly & Install
Everything goes together clean, torqued to spec and documented — fueling, cooling and boost all fitted as one system so the car works as a whole instead of a pile of good parts fighting each other. Wiring is routed properly, clearances are checked, and the car is buttoned up like it's going to be inspected, because I'm the one signing off on it.
Dyno & Tune
The car goes on the loaded dyno for a calibration tuned to your fuel and to LA heat — the dyno tuning and ECU calibration that turn a box of parts into a real, repeatable number. I'm chasing a car that makes honest power hot and lives a long time, not a hero pull that only holds on a cool morning.
Delivery
You leave with the dyno logs, a clear break-in or care plan, and a car you can finally stop worrying about. I walk you through what changed, what to watch, and when to come back for a check. Finished builds end up in the gallery — yours could be next.
What to Expect While Your Car Is Here
You'll hear from me. A car sitting in a shop with radio silence is how trust dies, so I keep you in the loop — where the build is, what's coming next, and any wait we're stuck on. You're never left wondering whether your car is being worked on or parked in a corner gathering dust. If you want a photo of where it's at, ask; I'd rather over-communicate than have you drive across town to check on it.
The plan can't change behind your back. If I get into a build and find something that changes the scope or the cost — a worn part I wasn't expecting, or a better path to your goal — I stop and call you before I spend another dollar. Nothing happens on your car without your sign-off. That's the entire reason I quote it properly up front instead of running a meter and handing you a surprise at the end.
Timelines are honest, not optimistic. Engine and fabrication work waits on machinists and on parts availability more than on labor, so I give you a realistic window once I can see the car and the parts list — not a number that sounds good on the phone and quietly slips a month. If something outside my control pushes the date, you'll know as soon as I do, and why.
